Is broken gold jewelry actually worth anything?
Yes — and usually more than people expect. Scrap value is driven by pure gold content, not by whether a clasp works or a stone is missing. A 14K chain that snapped in three places contains the same gold as the day it was bought, so it pays the same per gram as an identical chain in perfect condition.
The only time condition matters is when a piece is worth more intact than melted. Signed designer jewelry, heavy Cuban links, antique pieces and diamond-set items can be worth a premium above melt, so we set those aside and price them separately instead of dropping everything on the scale at one rate.

How scrap gold is valued, step by step
First we look for karat stamps — 417 or 10K, 585 or 14K, 750 or 18K, 875, 916 and so on. Stamps are a starting point, not proof, so every piece is confirmed with an electronic tester and, when needed, a nitric acid test on a touchstone.
Then each karat group goes on a legal-for-trade scale on the counter where you can read the display. Multiply the gram weight by the gold fineness (10K is 41.7% gold, 14K is 58.3%, 18K is 75%) and by that day's spot price per gram, and you have the melt value your offer is built from.
Plated, gold-filled and gold-tone costume items are separated out and handed back with an explanation of what the tester showed. We never charge for testing, and you are never obligated to sell any of it.

What affects a scrap gold offer
Four things: total gram weight, karat purity, the live gold market on the day you walk in, and the amount of non-gold material attached. Stones, steel spring bars, watch movements and heavy solder joints are deducted from the weighed total because they are not gold, and we show you what came off and why.
Nothing else changes the number. Cleaning your gold first does not raise it, and matching up pairs or untangling chains does not either. Bring the pieces exactly as they are.
