GMT-Master versus GMT-Master II — it changes the offer
The practical difference is how the time is set. On the original GMT-Master through the 16750, the 24-hour hand and the main hour hand are linked, so you track a second zone by rotating the bezel. From the GMT-Master II onward, the local hour hand jumps in one-hour steps independently, which is what most travelers actually want and is one reason the II holds broader demand.
That distinction matters on a valuation because a 1675 and a 16710 are aimed at entirely different buyers: one is a vintage collector piece read on dial and insert originality, the other a modern user's watch read on condition and completeness.
Bezel colors, nicknames and what they are worth
The nicknames track real production differences. Pepsi is red and blue, Coke is red and black, Batman is black and blue, and Root Beer is brown-toned on gold or Everose. Rolex's move to two-color ceramic — first the blue-and-black 116710BLNR in 2013, then the red-and-blue 126710BLRO in 2018 — was genuinely difficult to manufacture, and those references trade accordingly.
On aluminium-insert references, fading is not damage. An evenly faded Pepsi that has turned pink-and-lavender over decades of sun is often worth more than a crisp replacement insert, because the patina cannot be manufactured and is part of what the collector market pays for. A swapped insert on a vintage watch is identifiable and we point out what we see.
Jubilee or Oyster, and why we ask
The 2018 ceramic Pepsi arrived on a Jubilee bracelet and later on Oyster, and the two have never sold for the same money. If you have the other bracelet in a drawer, bring it — it belongs in the transaction.
On older references, bracelet stretch is normal and expected after decades of wear, but a heavily stretched Jubilee that rattles will show up in the number. Hollow versus solid end links, clasp codes and the presence of the original spare links all get checked during the inspection.
