GIA and certified diamonds
If your diamond came with a GIA, AGS or IGI report, bring it. A grading report from a respected lab removes the disagreement over color and clarity that otherwise sits at the center of every diamond negotiation, and it lets the stone be priced directly against current market data for that exact grade combination.
GIA reports carry the most weight in the trade. Reports from labs known to grade loosely still help by confirming measurements and identifying whether a stone is natural or lab-grown, but the grades on them are re-checked in-house rather than taken at face value.
No report is not a problem. We grade the stone under a loupe and scope with you present, explain the color, clarity, cut and measurements we arrived at, and quote from there. Certification is never required to sell.
What actually moves a diamond offer
Carat weight is the loudest factor but not the only one — the market steps up sharply at half-carat and full-carat boundaries, so a 0.98 ct and a 1.02 ct can differ more than the weight suggests. Cut quality drives brightness and is where poorly proportioned stones lose value quietly.
Fluorescence, chips on the girdle, and treatments such as fracture filling or laser drilling all affect resale and are checked and disclosed. Lab-grown diamonds are identified with testing and priced honestly against a market that sits far below natural stones.

Selling a diamond ring in Houston
Engagement rings are the most common diamond sale we handle, and they are valued as two numbers added together: the center stone plus any accent diamonds, and the gold or platinum mounting by weight. You see both figures rather than one blended total.
Bring the ring, any grading report or appraisal you have, and a valid photo ID to 6809 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77074, open Monday–Thursday 9:30 AM–7:00 PM, Friday–Saturday 9:30 AM–8:00 PM and Sunday 12:00–7:00 PM. Insurance appraisals state replacement cost, not resale value, so expect the two numbers to differ — we will explain why.
Also useful: sell other fine jewelry the same visit.

Sell Diamonds — Questions & Answers
- Who buys diamonds in Houston?
- Gold King at 6809 Southwest Freeway buys loose and mounted diamonds in Houston, grades stones in front of the seller, and pays cash the same day. Call 713-997-0875.
- Do I need a GIA certificate to sell a diamond?
- No. A GIA or AGS report helps confirm grading and can support a higher offer, but Gold King grades stones in-house at no charge.
- Do you buy lab-grown diamonds?
- We test every stone and will tell you if it is lab-grown or moissanite. Lab-grown diamonds have a much lower resale value than natural stones, and we quote accordingly.
- Where can I sell a diamond in Houston?
- Gold King buys loose and mounted diamonds at 6809 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77074, grading each stone in front of the seller and paying cash the same visit. Call 713-997-0875.
- Does a GIA certificate increase what I get for my diamond?
- It can. A GIA report confirms grading independently, which removes uncertainty and supports pricing directly against market data for that grade. Stones without reports are graded in-house at no charge.
- Why is my offer lower than my insurance appraisal?
- Insurance appraisals state retail replacement cost, which includes markup, setting labor and tax. A resale offer reflects what the stone and metal are worth in the current secondary market.
