Selling gold coins in Houston
Gold bullion coins are the simplest sale we handle. American Gold Eagles, Buffalos, Canadian Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, Austrian Philharmonics and Mexican Pesos all have known gold content, so the payout is spot price applied to that content plus a premium reflecting how readily the coin resells.
US pre-1933 gold — $2.50 Quarter Eagles, $5 Half Eagles, $10 Eagles and $20 Double Eagles — is different. Common-date circulated pieces trade close to gold content, while better dates, mint marks and higher grades carry numismatic premiums well above melt. We check dates and mint marks on every piece rather than treating the lot as bullion.
Also useful: gold bars and larger bullion positions.
Silver coins, junk silver and collections
Pre-1965 US dimes, quarters and half dollars are 90% silver and are bought by face value against the live silver market. 40% Kennedy halves from 1965 to 1970 are bought too, at their lower silver content. Morgan and Peace dollars are checked individually because dates like the 1893-S and 1889-CC are worth many multiples of silver value.
Whole accumulations are welcome — coffee cans, folders, Whitman albums, inherited collections. We sort them with you, separate bullion-value coins from collectible ones, and tell you which pieces you may want to keep or sell elsewhere as numismatic items.
Also useful: sell sterling and other silver.
Graded coins and what to bring
PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG slabs are checked against current price guides and recent auction results by certification number. Do not crack coins out of holders before selling — the holder is part of the value.
Bring the coins as they are stored, plus a valid photo ID. Never clean a coin: cleaning is visible under magnification and permanently reduces collector value on anything better than common circulated silver.

Sell Coins — Questions & Answers
- Do you buy graded coins in PCGS or NGC holders?
- Yes. Graded coins are reviewed against current numismatic price guides and are often worth well above their melt value.
- Are my old pennies and wheat cents worth anything?
- Most circulated wheat cents carry only a small premium, but we check dates and mint marks for key issues at no charge.
- Do you buy foreign gold coins?
- Yes. World gold including Sovereigns, Francs, Pesos and Ducats is bought at live gold pricing adjusted for each coin's actual gold content.
- Where can I sell gold coins in Houston?
- Gold King buys gold coins at 6809 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77074, open Monday–Thursday 9:30 AM–7:00 PM, Friday–Saturday 9:30 AM–8:00 PM and Sunday 12:00–7:00 PM, paying live gold pricing plus a premium on recognized bullion issues. Call 713-997-0875.
- Do you buy whole coin collections?
- Yes. We sort the collection with you, separate bullion-value coins from collectible ones, and quote both so you can decide what to sell.
- Should I clean my coins before selling them?
- No. Cleaning is detectable and permanently lowers the value of collectible coins. Bring them exactly as they are.
