Sell a Rolex Air-King in Houston, TX

The Air-King is the Rolex family with the widest spread of dials and the lowest entry point, which makes identifying exactly which one you have unusually important.

Air-King values rest on the generation and case size, the dial variant, case and bracelet condition, and current demand. Some dials from the 114200 era trade well above the general run of the model.

Three eras of Air-King, three different watches

The vintage 5500 ran for decades as a 34mm no-date watch with an acrylic crystal and is valued on dial and case condition. The 114200 generation, also 34mm, arrived with a sapphire crystal and a remarkable spread of dial colors and finishes. Then in 2016 the 116900 changed the model completely: 40mm, a black dial with large 3, 6 and 9 numerals, a five-minute numeral track, and green and yellow lettering carried over from the model's aviation associations.

The 2022 126900 followed with crown guards added to the case and a small but noticeable change to the dial's minute-track numbering. Owners are often surprised that these sit in entirely separate markets rather than forming one price band.

Dial variants are where the value hides

On the 114200 in particular, Rolex produced blue, silver, black, white, salmon-toned and concentric-circle dials, some with Arabic 3-6-9 markers and some with plain indices. A few of these are considerably harder to find than others, and they are the reason two 34mm Air-Kings in equal condition can be far apart on value.

We identify the dial variant during the inspection rather than pricing to a generic reference number. If you are calling ahead, describing the dial color and marker style is more useful than almost anything else you can tell us.

Bezels, bracelets and honest condition

Air-Kings came with smooth, engine-turned and white gold fluted bezels depending on the reference, and the bezel type is part of the identification. Bracelets range from Oyster to Jubilee, and older hollow-link bracelets stretch noticeably.

This is a model that was often worn daily for decades, so honest wear is the norm and is not penalized heavily. Polishing that has softened the case edges is a different matter and does reduce value.

How we price it

  • Unusual factory dial variants can lift an Air-King well above the model's general level; we quote the dial, not just the reference.
  • Case size matters: 34mm and 40mm generations sell to different buyers.
  • Cash the same visit, or bank wire if you prefer.

Sell a Rolex Air-King — Questions & Answers

Is the Air-King the least valuable Rolex?
It is generally the most affordable family, but certain dial variants and the 40mm 116900 and 126900 references trade well above the model's baseline. The dial decides more than the name does.
Do you buy a 34mm Air-King from the 1970s or 1980s?
Yes. Vintage 5500 and similar references are bought regularly and valued on dial originality and case condition.
My Air-King has an aftermarket diamond dial. Will you still buy it?
Yes, though aftermarket dials and bezels usually lower value against an original example. If you kept the original parts, bring them.
Does the Air-King need to be running?
No. A non-running watch is bought with the service cost factored into the offer.
