Selling is not borrowing — the difference matters

People who need money in a hurry are usually offered two very different things. One is a loan against an item, where you hand something over, receive less than it is worth, and owe that amount back with interest before a deadline or lose the item. The other is a sale: you transfer ownership, you are paid what the item is worth on that day's market, and nothing is owed afterwards.

What same-day actually means here

Same-day means the entire transaction — evaluation, offer and payment — happens during a single walk-in visit, not that anything is instant or guaranteed. There is no mail-in kit, no shipping label, no waiting on an emailed quote and no check arriving days later.

A typical visit runs like this: you show a photo ID, we sort the items by metal and type, test purity with an electronic tester and, where needed, a small acid test, weigh each group on a legal-for-trade scale you can read from your side of the counter, and then explain a single combined number. If you accept, you are paid before you leave.

Timing depends on what you bring. A few gold chains take minutes. A mixed estate box, a coin jar that needs sorting, or a watch that needs its reference checked against current market data takes longer — usually still within the same visit, and we will tell you up front if something needs more time.

The items that convert to cash most easily

Gold is the most straightforward, because value comes from tested purity and gram weight against the live market rather than from condition or fashion. Broken, bent, tangled and mismatched pieces are paid at the same per-gram rate as jewelry you could still wear, which surprises a lot of first-time sellers.

Luxury watches and diamond jewelry can carry the highest single-item value, but they take the longest to assess because the specific reference, condition, originality and stone quality all move the number. Silver, coins and bullion sit in between: sterling and 90% US silver coinage are priced by weight against the silver market, while collectible coins are looked at individually in case they are worth more than melt.

Costume jewelry, gold-plated pieces, silver plate and watches from fashion brands generally have little or no metal value. We will test them anyway and hand them back with an explanation rather than folding them into an offer.

How to get the most out of an urgent sale

Urgency is exactly when people accept a weak offer, so a few minutes of preparation is worth real money. Separate obvious costume pieces from what is stamped or feels like solid metal, and bring everything at once — a single combined transaction is simpler than three trips.

Ask any buyer you visit, including us, for two numbers: the per-gram rate they are paying by karat, and the spot price they are working from. Those two figures make competing offers directly comparable, and any buyer unwilling to state them is telling you something.
