What we test, what we buy and what to expect when you bring gold to our Southwest Freeway counter.
- How does selling gold to Gold King work?
- You bring your gold in, we test and weigh each piece in front of you, and we explain how the number was reached. If you accept the offer we pay you the same visit. Testing and appraisal are free, and you are never obligated to sell.
- How is the value of gold determined?
- Scrap gold is valued on gram weight × purity × the current gold spot price, less a dealer margin. Stones, brand and craftsmanship can add value on designer or gem-set pieces, so those are looked at separately.
- Do you buy broken gold jewelry?
- Yes. Snapped chains, bent rings, single earrings and dental gold are paid at the same per-gram rate as intact jewelry, because the value comes from the metal content rather than the condition.
- Do you buy 10K and 14K gold?
- Yes. 10K and 14K are the most common karats we see in Houston, and both are tested and paid on their actual gold content — 10K is 41.7% gold, 14K is 58.3%.
- Do you buy 18K, 22K and 24K gold?
- Yes. Higher-karat pieces, including 18K European jewelry and 22K or 24K Indian, Vietnamese and Middle Eastern gold, are tested and paid on their higher purity.
- Do you buy gold coins?
- Yes. Bullion coins such as American Eagles, Krugerrands and Maple Leafs are valued on weight and spot price, while collectible and pre-1933 U.S. coins are reviewed for numismatic value as well.
- What should I bring when selling gold?
- Bring the items themselves and a valid government-issued photo ID. Texas law requires precious metal dealers to record seller identification on every purchase. Any receipts or certificates you happen to have are welcome but not required. Questions first? Call 713-997-0875.

Silver, diamonds and jewelry
Sterling, silver coins, gem-set pieces and inherited jewelry are all welcome.
- Do you buy silver?
- Yes. We buy sterling silver, .999 fine silver bars and rounds, and silver flatware and holloware, valued on weight, fineness and the silver spot price at the time of your visit.
- Do you buy silver jewelry?
- Yes. Sterling jewelry is tested for fineness and weighed. Plated pieces have no meaningful melt value — we test them free of charge, tell you honestly what they are and hand them back.
- Do you buy silver coins?
- Yes. Pre-1965 U.S. 90% silver coinage, silver Eagles and foreign silver are all bought, with collectible dates reviewed beyond their melt value.
- Do you buy unwanted or mismatched jewelry?
- Yes. Odd earrings, tangled chains, class rings and pieces that no longer suit you are all worth bringing in — they are paid on metal content, and any stones are reviewed separately.
- Do you buy diamond jewelry?
- Yes. Loose and mounted diamonds are graded under loupe and scope for carat, cut, color and clarity, and the mounting is valued on its own metal content. A GIA report helps but is not required.
- Do you buy estate jewelry?
- Yes. Estates and inherited collections are reviewed piece by piece — period and designer items are considered for their resale value rather than being lumped in as scrap.

Rolex and luxury watches
In-person authentication for Rolex and other Swiss brands, running or not.
- Does Gold King buy Rolex watches?
- Yes. Rolex is the brand we see most often — Submariner, Datejust, Daytona, GMT-Master and Oyster Perpetual among them — and every watch is authenticated in person before an offer is made.
- What affects the value of a Rolex?
- Reference number, model and production year, dial and bezel configuration, overall condition, whether the movement runs, service history, and whether the original box and papers are present.
- Do I need the box and papers to sell a Rolex?
- No. Watches are bought with or without box and papers. Having them generally supports a stronger number, so bring them if you still have them.
- Do you buy other luxury watch brands?
- Yes. Omega, Cartier, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and other Swiss brands are all reviewed, along with solid gold watch cases and bracelets.
- What should I bring when selling a luxury watch?
- The watch, any box, papers, extra links or service receipts you have, and a valid photo ID. Non-running watches are still worth bringing in.

The selling process
How a visit runs from the moment you walk in to the moment you are paid.
- Do I need an appointment?
- Walk-ins are welcome during regular hours — open monday–thursday 9:30 am–7:00 pm, friday–saturday 9:30 am–8:00 pm, sunday 12:00–7:00 pm. After-hours meetings can be arranged by calling 713-997-0875 if that suits your schedule better.
- How long does an evaluation take?
- Most visits are done in about 15 to 20 minutes. Larger estates, bullion positions and multi-watch lots take longer because each piece is reviewed individually.
- What happens during an evaluation?
- Items are sorted, tested for purity, weighed on a certified scale and — for watches and diamonds — examined for authenticity and grade. Everything happens at the counter in front of you, and we walk you through each number.
- Am I required to sell after receiving an offer?
- No. The appraisal is free and there is no obligation. If the offer is not right for you, you take your items home with you.
- How do I get paid?
- Most purchases are paid in cash before you leave. Bank wire is offered on high-value watches, bullion positions and estates where a cash payout is impractical.
- Where is Gold King located?
- 6809 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77074, on the Southwest Freeway corridor with free parking at the door. Open Monday–Thursday 9:30 AM–7:00 PM, Friday–Saturday 9:30 AM–8:00 PM, Sunday 12:00–7:00 PM.

Understanding what your items are worth
The factors behind every number we quote, explained plainly.
- How much is my gold worth?
- It depends on weight, karat and the gold spot price on the day you visit. We can give a rough range by phone if you know the karat and gram weight, but a firm number requires testing the pieces in person.
- Why can two gold items have different values?
- Two pieces that look alike can differ in karat, in how much of the weight is actually gold rather than stones, clasps or hollow construction, and in whether the brand or design carries resale value beyond melt.
- Does gold purity affect value?
- Substantially. A 14K piece is 58.3% gold and a 24K piece is 99.9%, so at the same weight the higher-karat item holds far more gold — which is why every piece is tested rather than taken at face value.
- Does weight affect gold value?
- Yes — payouts are calculated per gram, so weight is the other half of the equation alongside purity. We weigh in front of you and show you the reading.
- Does the condition of jewelry matter?
- For scrap gold and silver, no — broken pieces pay the same per gram. For designer, antique and gem-set jewelry, condition matters because the piece may be worth more resold intact than melted.
- Does the brand affect jewelry or watch value?
- Often, yes. Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef and Swiss watch brands carry resale demand above metal value, so signed and marked pieces are appraised on their brand as well as their materials.
